Terms of use
Last updated: 1 October 2026
ChessOps is a set of tools for chess arbiters and organisers, designed and developed by Vivek Sohani. By creating an account or using any part of ChessOps you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Who may use ChessOps
The tools are for chess arbiters, organisers and their teams. Accounts are approved by the administrators, and access can be limited, suspended or withdrawn at any time, for example if these terms are not followed. Public pages such as live score links can be viewed by anyone the organiser shares them with.
2. Your account
Keep your password private and do not share your account. You are responsible for what is done through it. Admins are responsible for the arbiters they invite and for the events they create. Tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
3. Permitted use
You may use ChessOps to run, officiate, report on and publish chess events, including printing and exporting the results, lists and reports it produces for those events.
4. No third-party sales or reselling
You may not, without written permission:
- sell, resell, rent, lease, sublicense or otherwise commercialise access to ChessOps or any of its features;
- offer ChessOps, or a service built on it, to third parties for a fee, or charge others for accounts, signup links or premium features;
- sell, trade or pass on player data, rating data or other information obtained through ChessOps to third parties;
- copy, modify, decompile, rebrand or redistribute the software, its design or its content, or present it as your own;
- use automated scripts, bots or scraping against ChessOps, or overload, probe or disrupt it.
5. Premium features
Organiser branding on print-outs and pages is a paid premium feature, enabled by the Super admin. It applies to the account it was enabled for and may not be transferred or resold.
6. Players’ data
Organisers and admins are responsible for the player data they enter or import (names, ratings, IDs, dates of birth and contact details) and for having the right to use it, including the consent of players or their parents or guardians where required. Enter only what the event needs. Pairings, results and standings that you publish through live links are visible to anyone with the link.
7. Third-party data and official decisions
Some tools read public information from FIDE, the All India Chess Federation, Chess-Results and PGN feeds. That information may be delayed, incomplete or changed by its source, and these sources are not affiliated with ChessOps. Check important information with the official source. ChessOps assists arbiters; it does not replace them. Claims, eligibility, pairings and results are decided by the arbiters under the FIDE Laws of Chess and the applicable regulations.
8. Availability and no warranty
ChessOps is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep it accurate and running, but we do not guarantee that it will be error-free or uninterrupted. Keep your own copies of important tournament files (for example ChessOps Pairing backups and exports).
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from the use of or inability to use ChessOps.
10. Changes
These terms may be updated from time to time. The date above shows the latest version. Continuing to use ChessOps after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
